Transforming a dated entry bed into a luxury guest experience
The Opportunity

A conversation with Viceroy‘s new General Manager revealed an opportunity to transform the Washington, DC hotel’s primary entrance planter into a signature landscape feature. The goal was to elevate curb appeal, enhance the guest arrival experience, and create a year-round focal point that reflected the property’s luxury brand. Through several collaborative design meetings, the team developed a custom enhancement solution featuring decorative stone and UV-protected faux plant materials, creating a bold, year-round focal point at the property’s main entrance.

The Challenge
- Weak curb appeal/arrival impact
- Need for long-term “city” performance
- Limited year-round appeal
- Finding durable solutions
- Ongoing maintenance considerations

The Solution
- Complete planter redesign
- Luxury-inspired aesthetics
- Consistent look with year-round interest
- Durable faux plantings with stone contrast
- Reduced maintenance needs

The Result
The completed enhancement transformed the hotel’s entrance into a bold focal point that reflects the Viceroy’s modern luxury brand. Crews removed the existing landscape, installed a double layer of protective wire barrier and landscape fabric, and defined the new design with 150 linear feet of black steel edging. Approximately three tons each of Snow White Marble Chips and Black Mexican Beach Pebbles, along with UV-protected faux plantings, created a striking, low-maintenance display that delivers year-round curb appeal while positioning Ruppert for future enhancement opportunities at the property.
Thanks to Wayne Boucher (Area Manager), Laurie Shoemaker (Designer), and our DC Maintenance team for their hard work on this enhancement project!
