Overview
The client’s intent for the Kiawah River Coastal Community was to create and sustain a cohesive, high-end residential environment that harmonizes with the site’s natural Sea Island surroundings. The landscape was designed to reflect a “natural-native” aesthetic, with expansive meadows, wooded areas, and native plantings that align with the community’s sustainability-focused mission. As an agrihood community, Kiawah River places a strong emphasis on ecological stewardship, communal interaction, and wellness, which is reflected in the inclusion of amenities such as a working farm, farmers market, sports park, pocket parks, and miles of walking trails. The landscape was expected to remain both functionally sustainable and visually appealing, even with frequent foot traffic from residents and special events hosted at community venues like the farmhouse and sports field.
Scope
Our scope of work includes maintaining over 13 acres of turf, caring for more than 2,000 shrubs and perennials, and installing over 1,000 annuals with each seasonal rotation. We perform detailed edging along three miles of bed and curb lines, apply approximately 600 cubic yards of mulch annually, and oversee all aspects of the turf care program, including fertilization, aeration, and overseeding. In addition, our team handles pest management and irrigation system oversight in-house, ensuring a responsive, integrated approach to maintaining plant health and water efficiency throughout the site.
