The Mather

Overview

Mather’s vision for its Tysons, Virginia, community was to redefine senior living by prioritizing wellness, sustainability, and meaningful connection to nature in a vibrant, urban setting. As a nonprofit, Mather set out to create a forward-thinking environment that would appeal to a new generation of active older adults by integrating biophilic and sustainable design throughout the site. The landscape was a central part of this vision—blending public and private outdoor spaces with nearly three acres of green space, including rooftop gardens, walking paths, a dog park, sports courts, and access to a nearby public park. The goal was to create a wellness-focused refuge within a bustling mixed-use neighborhood, offering opportunities for outdoor recreation, social engagement, and daily interaction with nature. LEED Gold and WELL Building certifications further reinforced the commitment to environmental and human health, aligning with Mather’s mission to create a lasting, inclusive, and livable community.
