North Potomac Yard Park

Overview

North Potomac Yard Park in Alexandria, Virginia is one piece of a larger redevelopment project which will help transform a former railyard into a vibrant transit-oriented community. This 4.5 acre park was designed to align with Alexandria’s Environmental Sustainability Master Plan by providing accessible green space, incorporating storm water management strategies, establishing walkable connections and gathering areas, and serving as the central open space for the new mixed-use neighborhood.

Scope

The overall scope of this project included the excavation of 425 CY of soil; installation of 1685 tons of drainage stone; 225 tons of quarried Russell stone; 4800 CY of soil; nearly 2 tons of fertilizer and 1550 CY of compost; 83,450 SF of drainage fabric/liner; 3150 LF of drainage pipe; 4700 LF of pavers; a 36-zone $750,000 irrigation system; $750,000 in site amenities, and landscape that included an acre of turf, over 400 trees, 8000 shrubs, and 29,000 perennials.
